Lessons from a CTO: Corey Mandell

Marjorie Clark, 425Business – May 5 2016

Corey Mandell has been creating technology companies since 1993. After creating a 70-pound, pre-Internet micro-computer for the United States Department of Defense, he got to work starting and selling his own technology company building tools for the newly released Windows 3.1.

Mandell has refined his management style, management by walking around, and said he enjoys interacting with and helping his employees solve problems and create great tech.

“If you manage people in such a way that you are enticing them to learn more technology, use more technology, they will come up with innovative ideas that will blow you away,” Mandell said. “Your job is to clear the way so they can do that, and be ready to detect it when they have a gem and support them.”

Today, Mandell is the chief technology officer and president of Greater Intell, founded in 2013. The Kirkland-based company developed a suite of tools to help information systems managers securely and remotely monitor their systems and integrate with third-party management software.

Kaseya ups the ante on remote managed services

Wouldn’t it be good if a computing device could install firmware, fix itself, prevent outages, and reboot itself? Kaseya has released its 2nd generation RMM for managed services.

04 May 2016, By Ray Shaw – Published in Outsourcing

Kaseya,  a leading provider of management solutions for Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and small-to mid-sized businesses has announced its VSA 9.3 that delivers a reimagined technician experience to greatly improve productivity, enable 24/7 operations, provide policy-driven end-point security and increased platform scalability and extensibility.

“With these enhancements, which have been developed based on customer feedback, Live Connect has leapfrogged competition to deliver the best technician experience on the market today,” said Mike Puglia, chief product officer, Kaseya. “Competitive offerings don’t have the modern, clean intuitive interface of Live Connect. But, more importantly, they don’t have the connect speed, the advanced real-time monitoring interface, the remote control capabilities and the inherent reliability of Live Connect for VSA 9.3.”

According to Kaseya VSA 9.3 delivers the industry’s fastest, most reliable and functionally complete remote monitoring and management to reimagine the technician experience through:

  • Real time visibility: Live Connect module delivers immediate, comprehensive, and real-time visibility into every aspect of an end point such as CPU utilisation, application processes, services, disk utilisation, activity metrics and service tickets-without interrupting the end user’s system.
  • Fast remote control: VSA’s remote control is accessible within Live Connect to enable rapid resolution of complex device problems by technicians.
  • Reduced site visits: New Kaseya VSA and Intel vPro integration enables non-responsive PCs or kiosks to be repaired remotely without the cost or delays associated with a site visit.
  • Extensible automation: Technicians can leverage an extensible library of automated procedures to address common issues, such as rebooting, disk clean-up, service restarts, or clearing registry problems.
  • Improved technician multi-tasking and efficiency: Technicians can simultaneously monitor multiple devices, quickly toggle between remote sessions, and quickly zero-in to resolve issues.
  • New technician experience: Live Connect employs Google’s Material Design guidelines to deliver a modern, clean and intuitive interface, which further increases efficiency and dramatically reduces staff training requirements.

VSA 9.3 includes new security capabilities and automation including:

  • Security automation: Policy-driven “best practice” automation templates based on Kaseya’s experience working with thousands of customers, ensures that all end-points are secure and are consistently updated to provide the highest threat protection.
  • Selectable security posture levels: Customers can now quickly select between pre-built levels of security monitoring to automatically enable the appropriate level of scanning and remediation for workstations or servers that can be applied to groups guaranteeing compliance with internal or industry standards.
  • Customised security policies: Custom automated policies, leveraging the latest attributes of Kaseya partners Kaspersky Lab and Malwarebytes, including new behavioural based and network attack detection, protects against emerging threats.

VSA is engineered to meet the demands of today’s disparate networks through:

  • Peer-to-peer: New peer-to-peer software deployment technology provides a new approach to distributing software applications and updates on a massive scale.
  • Improved scalability: Kaseya VSA 9.3 has benchmarked improved performance by up to 30 percent due to database performance, refactoring the server architecture and advanced performance engineering.
  • Automation exchange: New Automation Exchange puts the power of the community to work by providing a central “clearing house” to foster the easy exchange of automation processes, scripts, reports, integrations and other customisation.
  • Self-managing agents: Kaseya VSA can deploy new agents on a scheduled-basis or automatically update them based on policy-driven settings to ensure that the system is always up-to-date.
  • Programmatic control: New REST API enables customers and partners to extend the Kaseya platform and customise the system to their needs using the latest REST-based API protocols.
  • Partner extensibility: VSA 9.3 expands capabilities for partners such as ESET, Trend Micro, Webroot, Veeam, IT Glue, APC by Schneider Electric and Greater Intell. All have announced new integrated offerings giving Kaseya customers the choice and control for using best-of-breed technologies through a single platform.
  • PSA integration: Kaseya VSA 9.3 introduces new bi-directional data connection integrations with 3rd party PSA products from Autotask, Connectwise and Tigerpaw Software, bringing a new level of interoperability between RMM and PSA products.

“Kaseya’s VSA 9.3 was clearly developed with the technician experience in mind,” says Oscar Romero, lead systems engineer for Dataprise. “Kaseya continues to develop its products based on the feedback from their user-base and this latest version is another example. The ‘rebirth’ of managed security management and the redesigned Live Connect are two powerful technical forces which will empower our engineers to not only be more efficient but, also to provide first-class service delivery to our clients.”

Webroot and Greater Intell Partner to Deliver Next-Generation Endpoint Protection for Kaseya VSA

Webroot SecureAnywhere Business Endpoint Protection integration with Kaseya VSA aims to drive MSP adoption and scalable enterprise security management.

By ChannelPro

Security vendor Webroot has teamed up with Greater Intell, a developer of mobile applications, systems management software, and cloud systems, to integrate Webroot SecureAnywhere Business Endpoint Protection with Kaseya VSA. The combination integrates the cloud-driven protection features of Webroot into the Kaseya VSA platform, enabling enterprises and managed service providers to deliver next-generation endpoint security in a single, unified solution.

“We’re very pleased to be partnering with Greater Intell to offer the Kaseya community more value from their existing investment,” says Charlie Tomeo, vice president of channel and technical sales at Webroot. “Kaseya’s industry-leading remote monitoring and management (RMM) platform has fostered a loyal and rapidly-growing following within the enterprise and MSP ecosystems. These customers recognize that endpoint security is challenging today and that they need next generation defenses to protect their users and their company data from cyberattacks. With Webroot’s proven next-generation endpoint protection, both internal security teams and external managed services organizations will be able to offer better protection and performance, and also increase operating margins by significantly reducing the complexities and inefficiencies associated with managing a traditional security solution.”

The cloud-based Webroot management console requires no on-premise servers, and endpoints can be managed and remediated remotely from any location. The Webroot agent can be installed remotely on a managed endpoint in less than a minute, states the company, shortening the time normally required to deploy a new security solution from weeks to minutes. Webroot also features journaling and rollback remediation capabilities, saving customers time and money by greatly reducing the need to reimage infected machines.

"We're very pleased to be partnering with Greater Intell to offer the Kaseya community more value from their existing investment," he said in a statement. "Kaseya's industry-leading remote monitoring and management platform has fostered a loyal and rapidly-growing following within the enterprise and MSP ecosystems. These customers recognize that endpoint security is challenging today and that they need next-generation defenses to protect their users and their company data from cyber attacks."

In support of the integration, Greater Intell created a customized plug-in currently available as a single executable.

The Webroot integration is now available for the Kaseya VSA platform. Later this year, the company also plans to release a version of the plug-in for Kaseya Cloud.

Kaseya RMM Platform Adds Webroot Endpoint Security

Aldrin Brown, MSPmentor – Apr 12, 2016

The integration is a part of a partnership between Webroot and Greater Intell, which is a strategic supplier to Kaseya in North America.

Endpoint security firm Webroot and IT management software provider Greater Intell today announced a partnership to integrate the Webroot SecureAnywhere Business Endpoint Protection solution into the Kaseya Virtual System Administrator (VSA) remote monitoring and management (RMM) platform.

The announcement comes a week after Kaseya, a leading maker of RMM solutions, announced an agreement to make Greater Intell its strategic supplier in North America.

Webroot’s cloud-based endpoint protection solution and the Kaseya VSA are now being engineered together to create a unified solution for enterprises and managed service providers (MSPs).

"We're very pleased to be partnering with Greater Intell to offer the Kaseya community more value from their existing investment," said Charlie Tomeo, vice president of channel and technical sales at Webroot. "Kaseya's industry-leading (RMM) platform has fostered a loyal and rapidly-growing following within the enterprise and MSP ecosystems.”

“These customers recognize that endpoint security is challenging today and that they need next-generation defenses to protect their users and their company data from cyber-attacks,” he said. “With Webroot's proven next-generation endpoint protection, both internal security teams and external managed services organizations will be able to offer better protection and performance, and also increase operating margins by significantly reducing the complexities and inefficiencies associated with managing a traditional security solution."

The Webroot agent can be installed remotely on managed endpoints in less than one minute and requires no on-premise servers.

Endpoints can then be remediated remotely, and feature a journaling and rollback feature that reduces the need for reimaging of infected machines.

In addition, Greater Intell created a customized plug-in for the integration, which is available as an easy-to-install, single executable.

"Webroot was a clear choice," said Corey Mandell, founder and CTO of Greater Intell. "We did a thorough cybersecurity review within the MSP community, and Webroot was the obvious winner.”

“Many MSPs told us that Webroot integration with Kaseya was a top priority for them,” Mandell said. “We expect strong growth and are pleased to be partnering with market leaders like Webroot."

The Kaseya VSA platform with Webroot’s endpoint protection is currently available for purchase and demonstrations are planned during Kaseya Connect, to be held in Carlsbad, Calif., May 3-5.

Partnership aims to deepen monitoring and visualization capabilities

By Damon Poeter – 07 April 2016

Kaseya and IT management software developer Greater Intell are teaming up to provide MSPs with a one-two punch of remote monitoring and analytics for managing IT environments.

Kaseya recently named Greater Intell a strategic supplier in North America. Now the company wants to further incorporate the Greater Intell giOpsCenter analytics dashboard into its own portfolio of IT management solutions.

Greater Intell, already a member of Kaseya's Technology Alliance Partner Program, believes the new agreement will benefit both companies.

"Kaseya understands the business of MSPs very well," Greater Intell CTO and founder Corey Mandell said in a statement.

"They know the best MSPs need a complete suite of products and solutions to be competitive and deliver new and innovative services to their clients and customers. This agreement for Kaseya to resell Greater Intell's products and integration solutions is a major milestone in that direction. The Kaseya ecosystem will grow rapidly in the months and years ahead, and we are excited to be part of the beginning stages of this new growth."

Greater Intell's giOpsCenter provides "a powerful analytics-based dashboard adding deep monitoring and visualization capabilities" to MSPs using Kaseya's platform, according to the two firms.

The new partnership was lauded by Kaseya customer Tampa, FL-based Data-Tech, which has found success using Kaseya and Greater Intell solutions together to underpin its MSP services.

"We have been using Kaseya remote monitoring and management for years... With the addition of Greater Intell's giOpsCenter, we now have an actionable end-to-end dashboard view of all the critical operational data Kaseya provides us," said Data-Tech VMS engineer Jonathon Blacklidge.

"The combination of both Kaseya and GI tools in the Data-Tech Nerve Center enables us to cost-effectively deliver the highest level of service to our customers," he added.
